Can the ÖVP investigative committee end corruption in Austria?

2022-06-03T18:09:21.005Z

A committee of inquiry is to deal with abuse of power and "friendship" in the Chancellor's party ÖVP. What do the surveys bring?

An investigative committee has been running in Austria for almost three months, which deals with the allegations of corruption in the ÖVP.

The background is the so-called advertisement affair, which led to the fall of the then Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in autumn 2021 after extensive house searches in the Chancellery and in the ÖVP party headquarters.

Among other things, it was about surveys that were presumably embellished for money.

And there are other affairs involving tax evasion and illegal assignments.

The ÖVP corruption investigation committee is now supposed to work through all of this.

Files are evaluated and politicians and officials are questioned.
