The Erdinger district pilgrimage to Maria Thalheim is canceled for the third time in a row.

The reason this time is not Corona.

Maria Thalheim – The district pilgrimage to Maria Thalheim is a mass phenomenon.

In fact, she would be.

If everything had gone according to plan in recent years, the 70th edition would take place this year.

But after two years of a corona-related break, the third cancellation in a row follows.

The date would have been Sunday, June 26th.

This time, however, the background is not the virus. The Pilgrimage Board of Trustees is responsible for the orientation.

In addition to district dean Michael Bayer, Fraunberg's mayor Hans Wiesmaier and district administrator Martin Bayerstorfer are also represented.

The latter usually officially invites to the pilgrimage on behalf of the dean, the board of trustees and the district Catholic council.

But that will not be the case this year either.

As can be learned from the district office, the Board of Trustees did not take its decision lightly - and regrets it.

But after the forced Corona break, too many major events were taking place in parallel, on June 26 in Isen, Esterndorf and Langengeisling, among others.

On other Sundays - keyword evasive date - it doesn't look much different.

Especially since many unusual events will also be made up for.

The Board of Trustees feared a significant drop in the number of visitors and guests of honor.

The last district pilgrimage so far, the 67th edition, took place on June 23, 2019.

In 2023 it should be that time again.

The event was always a crowd puller with around 1000 pilgrims.

In 2011, when Cardinal Reinhard Marx was a guest, there were even 3,000 people.

A pilgrimage to Thalheim was first mentioned in a document in 1419.

The 600th anniversary was celebrated in 2019.

Maria Thalheim is one of the oldest places of pilgrimage in Bavaria.

Many bishops, cardinals, abbots and well-known personalities from church life took part in the district pilgrimage, including the later Pope Josef Ratzinger, who was then a cardinal, in 1988.
