Black Gold: The sharp rise in the fuel tariff has created an influx that has not been seen for a long time • It is about 156 million shekels in credit for fuel purchases in the two days before the rise in prices •

The Israeli consumer's spending on credit cards at gas stations peaked in the last two days of May, following the Ministry of Energy's announcement of a 66 agorot increase in the tariff per liter of 95-octane gasoline, according to data from Shebaa, the director of the national credit card payment system.

"We had to get enough and refuel before the prices went up. The difference is huge, it's just crazy," says Hadar Fresher from Rishon Lezion.

The company's data show that in the last two days of May (30.5-31.5), credit card purchases were made at gas stations for a total of more than NIS 156.46 million.

This is an increase of 17.6% compared to the previous record of expenses, which was recorded at gas stations in the last two days of March (30.3-31.3) following the update of the fuel tariff with an increase of 34 cents - so the price was NIS 7.05 per liter.

The ISA data also show that the volume of credit card expenses in the last two days of the month was 37.8% higher than the average daily expenses at gas stations during May 2022.

Also at the various gas stations we were told about the onslaught in the days before the price increase.

One of the gas station chains emphasized that fuel prices are regulated, set by the government and the decisive part of the price to the consumer is tax.
