Queen Elizabeth II provides enlightenment.

She lit the bonfires at Windsor Castle while her grandson William lit the platinum jubilee bonfire at Buckingham Palace.

LONDON – More than 3,500 bonfires were lit in the UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the evening of the first anniversary day in honor of the icon on the British throne.

It was a long working day for the 96-year-old exceptional regent, but she insisted on personally pressing the symbolic button from Windsor Castle, which lit the gigantic illuminations at both Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, 36 kilometers away.

Prince William (39) held the fort in the palace in the heart of London.

"The Queen thoroughly enjoyed today's birthday parade and flypast, but she felt a little uneasy," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said on opening day.

In order not to raise false expectations, Queen Elizabeth II canceled participation in the service in St. Paul's Cathedral in the afternoon.

Many thought that with the Trooping the Color parade and the appearance of the aged regent, day one's performance would be over, but the monarch is always good for a surprise.

"The Queen looks forward to attending the Beacon Lighting event at Windsor Castle tonight and would like to thank all those who made today such a memorable occasion," the unexpected and humble message continued.

Friday's thanksgiving service will be attended by several members of the royal family, including Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan Markle, 40, who traveled from their native California for the platinum jubilee and who looked out from a window of Buckingham Palace yesterday follow what happened.

Queen Elizabeth II entered the quadrangle of Windsor Castle for the lighting ceremony and was received by Bruno Peek, who led the platinum jubilee beacon project.

According to him, the number of beacons across the country has far exceeded his goal of 1,500.

Beacons are also being lit across the Commonwealth - from Tonga to India and Rwanda.

Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, the tree (and its 80 branches) "stands as a message of hope, regeneration and optimism for the nation and the world," according to a press release from the Queen's Green Canopy, which commissioned the sculpture and this one year organized a great tree planting campaign across the UK.

Over a million trees have been planted across the UK.

Kate Middleton (40) and Prince William also swung the spade in Wales to create a lasting legacy in the anniversary year.

Every detail, no matter how small, has its reason not only in the reign of the Queen.

In the past, beacons were used by communities to send warnings of wars or other important messages to their neighbors.

But since Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee (81, † 1901) they have been used in national celebrations for monarchs.
