In the memory of theologians and bishops, we have never seen such a sanction in the Catholic Church.
Because we must call the “suspension” – ordered by Rome – of the priestly ordinations scheduled for June 26 in the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, as a sanction.
That is to say, a brutal means of imposing on the local bishop, Mgr Dominique Rey, 69, in charge of this place for twenty-two years, a Roman message.
Message however difficult to decipher.
Here is the reminder of the facts: in a press release dated June 2, Bishop Rey confirmed
“the
Roman request”
“to postpone the diaconal and priestly ordinations scheduled for the end of June”
.
The Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon cites two reasons:
"Alongside the many beautiful fruits that bear the proclamation of the Gospel and the mission of the Christians involved in our diocese (...) certain Roman dicasteries"
are asking themselves questions
"around the restructuring of the seminary and of the reception policy of the diocese”.
