About 1,000 refugees and immigrants who came from Ukraine and Russia joined the Shavuot celebrations in kibbutzim across the country today (Friday).
Nadia, about 70 years old, fled the city of Kharkiv where she lived after a 10-hour hike, almost without equipment, towards the border with Poland.
Her daughter, Tania, who has lived in Israel for the past few years, said that her mother, who worked as an orphanage teacher in Ukraine, did not stop getting excited and crying from the kibbutz's children's dances.
"The songs and dances took her back years, to a time she misses," she added.
Larissa Azimov, who also fled Ukraine at the outbreak of the war, described her excitement at the event.
"I liked the holiday very much, it is well organized, I had chills when the children arrived because they are the future of Israel."
She prayed that the war would end, "that our children would also see peace."
She thanked the organizers of the hospitality - the kibbutz movement together with the JDC and the Ministry of Welfare - and said that "our soul has calmed down,
