Almost all dams can be lower - this is the result of the modified flood protection concept for Erding.

The measures for Neuhauser, Aufhauser, Itzlinger and Wiesengraben cost at least 12.1 million euros.

Erding

– Exactly nine years to the day after the devastating flood on June 3, 2013, the urban development committee decided on a – modified – protection concept for the ditches that run towards Erding in the south of the city.

Unlike the Sempt, the city, not the Free State, is responsible here.

The measures to tame Neuhauser, Aufhauser, Itzlinger and Wiesengraben after heavy rain cost at least 12.1 million euros.

The city council has the last word on June 21.

Mayor Max Gotz (CSU) wants to go into the planning approval process this year.

Engineering office Björnsen and the Munich Water Management Office are convinced: This concept, together with the expansion of the Sempt, can protect Erding from a hundred-year flood.

According to Stefan Homilius from the Munich Water Management Office, that, a 15 percent climate surcharge and the omission of controlled systems are the prerequisites for funding by the Free State.

Christian Famira-Parcsetich from Urban Development recalled that flood protection for the so-called third-class bodies of water had been planned since the end of 2014.

In 2019, a first concept was decided.

But shortly afterwards, the citizens' initiative for natural flood protection in Erding was founded - in protest.

Gotz involved them in the planning, paid more than 150,000 euros for further test orders and accepted a two and a half year delay.

There were round tables with BI and planners.

After the plans were revised again, Famira-Parcsetich now explained that in three out of four ditches it was possible to reduce the size of the dams and the use of land.

Neuhauser ditch

The Neuhauser Graben runs between Fuchsberg and Indorfner Berg coming from the east towards Altenerding.

It flows piped north and finally flows into the Sempt near the city park.

Marion Reichel from the engineering office presented the optimized planning.

On the one hand, the cased trench is to be strengthened.

A retaining dam east of the B 388 is necessary between the Hohenlinden junction and Fuchsberg.

Reichel reported that the Freising State Building Authority had agreed to move it closer to the main road – ten meters instead of 20.

This means that it takes up less agricultural land.

An additional discharge to the old water/Sempt is planned.

The dam crest can be reduced from 3.30 to two meters and the area required from 8400 to a good 3000 square meters.

Cost point: around 4.2 million euros back.

Wiesengraben/Aufhauser Graben

Both run from the west towards the lower-lying Bergham.

In 2013, they, in particular, flooded the Aufhausen industrial estate on their way through the Moosgraben to the Sempt.

It remains the case that both ditches above Berghams receive retention basins shielded by dams, which throttle the flow in a controlled manner.

The optimized planning envisages maximizing the drains, including a second pipe under the S-Bahn.

Here, too, according to Reichel, the dams could be smaller: the one on the Wiesengraben should no longer be 4.60 but only 2.80 meters high, the one on the Aufhauser Graben only 2.60 meters instead of 3.50.

In addition, they will be shorter, but not (anymore) passable - because of the privacy, a wish of the residents.

However, the BI failed with its proposal to dig earthen basins in the ground as an alternative to dams.

Itzlingen Graben

According to Famira-Parcsetich, he is the only one whose planning could not be slimmed down.

In the event of a flood, it not only endangers the thermal baths, but also Klettham.

South of the thermal baths, on the road from Altenerding to Itzling, an L-shaped dam up to 4.80 meters high has to be built.

A total of 8000 square meters of land is required.

The BI had struggled for alternatives and, among other things, proposed three smaller retention basins south of Itzling, at the waterworks and on the B 388, which was considered too complex and too expensive: 8.6 compared to 5.1 million euros.

Dispute about vote

Thomas Schmidbauer (EDJ) said that the decision could not be made by the city council in two and a half weeks.

You have to get more information.

Gotz replied that the main features of the plans were known.

So the project would be delayed again.

Schmidbauer and parliamentary colleague Hans Balbach failed with the motion not to pass a resolution.

Gotz: “We have more citizen participation than planned.

Anyone can raise objections during the planning approval process.” Nine years after the flood, the majority of the council wanted rapid progress.
