If the sacredness of a wedding lies in the commitment of two people to be together for life, what about homosexuals?

At present, Hong Kong law does not recognize same-sex marriages or civil unions. Some homosexuals choose to register abroad. However, under the epidemic situation, "if you want to fly, you can't fly." And the company was recently invited by an old luxury hotel to participate in the wedding exhibition, "I dare not say that everyone will change their approach, but fortunately at least there are different hotels gradually, and they are willing to keep up with different paces."

The local LGBT wedding planning company "Next Chapter" founded in 2018, the directors Kurt and Mac are also a same-sex couple. The two got married in 2017. Looking back on the obstacles in planning the wedding, the bitterness of gay people, they naturally "can't understand more".

As soon as he walked into their office, Kurt complained that it was harder than ever for them to reach out to LGBT people since Facebook stopped allowing advertisers to advertise to users based on potentially "sensitive" topics such as gender orientation, religion and political beliefs. Community promotion; but they have good news today – Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, known for its traditional and luxurious image, took the initiative to invite them to the wedding exhibition held in June Pride month.

Every June is Pride Month, which originated from the "Stonewall Incident" that occurred in the United States on June 28, 1969.

Back then, the "Stonewall Bar", a gay bar in New York, sparked clashes between the police and the people due to the police's sudden door-to-door inspection, and also ignited dissatisfaction with the long-term oppression of the gay community.

The clashes gathered more than 500 protesters within 3 hours and lasted for 5 days.

In June of the following year, in honor of Stonewall, the first Pride Parade was held in New York, and it has changed the face of life for the LGBTQ community ever since.

Since then, various countries have held gay parades, and there will be dances and performances from time to time, like a large party.

Gay couples wear wedding dresses and gowns, and occasionally passers-by express their support politely, and more often cast curious or even unfriendly eyes. Therefore, Kurt and Mac's guests often wish to have a higher degree of privacy. venue for the wedding.

Kurt pointed out that the Eaton Hotel in Jordan has been the most supportive of the LGBT community in the past. For example, it held the first gay-friendly wedding exhibition in Hong Kong last year; lettering billboards.

In April of this year, a guest in Kurt wanted to hold a wedding in the suite of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, so the two parties began to communicate to make the wedding a success, and also contributed to this wedding exhibition cooperation.

"From the end of last year to 𠵱 home, I have been doing video Fly Free Wedding... After the relaxation of the (social distancing measures), many people returned to me." The Fly Free Wedding in Kurt's mouth was in January 2020 Launched an online marriage system from Utah, USA. The entire procedure can be operated remotely, and there is a video wedding service.

Kurt pointed out that in May alone, nearly 20 pairs of gay couples got married in this way, but when gay couples wear wedding dresses and dresses, passers-by will politely express their support, and most of them are curious or even unwilling. Friendly eyes, "Many gay people want to go to a place with high privacy... Even if they want to see the downtown scene during the filming, they may just go back indoors after the fun filming." In order to reduce unpleasantness, most of them will choose Photo studios, detached houses and hotels come to hold weddings, and as the epidemic eases, they are also preparing for different out-of-town wedding plans.

This time, the traditional Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong was invited to participate in the wedding exhibition. Kurt believes that it is also an inspiration to their company, the entire LGBT community and social integration.

LGBT wedding coordinators often hit a wall when looking for hotel venues

During last year's Pride Month, hotels also held celebrations and launched corresponding accommodation deals to encourage a gay-friendly environment.

However, Kurt revealed that it was not easy to find a venue. "Many hotels would not refuse outright, but would use a lot of different excuses." So she and Mac "learned" and would not indicate in advance that she was an LGBT wedding coordinator and went to the hotel. He said "there is a period" before telling him again, "If you have a room at the beginning, and then you refuse, you will probably know the reason. There is a little bit of failure, but at least you can know next time, and the side hotel can "save your breath" .” Being invited by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel this time, Kurt believes that it is also an inspiration to their company, the entire LGBT community and social integration.

Mandarin Oriental (Hotel) got the biggest boost because its image is a luxury hotel with a good tradition and an old brand... It's rare that a traditional hotel is willing to go out and is willing to accept more openness and more different categories people.

"I don't dare to say that everyone has changed their approach, but fortunately at least there are different hotels gradually, and they are willing to keep up with different paces," Kurt said.

Hong Kong society seems to be slowly accepting all kinds of "diversity"

Kurt put forward a metaphor that may not be the most appropriate, describing this cooperation as an old uncle who proposed to dye his hair pink, which felt innovative but flattering, "It turns out that only young children can dye their hair, and old people can dye their hair pink for good viewing." Look at the 2019 Cathay Pacific commercial, an outdoor advertising board with a pair of gay lovers dragging their hands, once the MTR and AA advertising agents asked to be removed from the shelves; after that, the TV series "Uncle's Love" became popular all over the city, and then the month ended. The former bank commercials featured bisexual entertainers and were well-received with the theme of "sheshe" couple stories; decades after the "Stonewall Incident", Hong Kong society seems to be slowly accepting all kinds of "diversity". Everyone has changed their approach, but fortunately at least there are gradually different hotels that are willing to keep up with different paces," Kurt said.
