The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, discussed today with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert, and her accompanying delegation, ways of cooperation and coordination between United Nations bodies and agencies and the Syrian government.
The meeting with the delegation that is conducting official meetings in Damascus and field visits in other governorates dealt with ways of cooperation in all fields, foremost of which are humanitarian aid and the conditions of the camps, especially Al-Hol camp.
Miqdad stressed the need for humanitarian action to move away from politicization and double standards, and to coordinate with the Syrian government by the United Nations and all countries that have citizens in the camps to return them to their homeland.
For her part, Plasschaert expressed her appreciation for the cooperation shown by Syria in the context of closing the camps, especially those located on the Syrian-Iraqi borders, and expressed her willingness to work in coordination with the Syrian and Iraqi governments to solve the problems of Iraqi citizens, especially the children and women in al-Hol camp.
The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Ambassador Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Director of the Organizations Department, Tamim Madani from the Organizations Department, Roaa Sharbaji from the Minister’s office, and from the UN side, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Syria, Imran Rida, and Nicholas Bose, the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Iraq and Muhammad Al-Najjar, Director of the Office of the Special Representative for Political Affairs.
