Pentecost Sunday could be very uncomfortable in some parts of Germany.

The German weather service warns of storms - up to the highest reporting level.

Munich – The long Pentecost weekend in Germany started with lots of sun and heat.

But that is expected to change from Pentecost Sunday.

The German Weather Service issued a severe weather warning for some parts of Germany on Saturday, which could bring hurricane gusts and heavy hail.

DWD warns of severe thunderstorms on Pentecost Sunday

Responsible for this is a low-pressure area, with which muggy-warm subtropical air would come to the south-west half of Germany, while a high-pressure area with dry air in the north and east counteracts this.

According to the DWD, nothing is happening in the north and east on Sunday.

But things are different in the other parts of Germany.

Severe storms in southern Germany: hurricane gusts and heavy hail possible

According to the warning from the west, thunderstorms are already brewing in the morning, which will initially subside and then intensify again in the afternoon.

The greatest risk of thunderstorms then exists from Lake Constance via the Odenwald, Bavaria to the Thuringian Forest and Vogtland from the afternoon.

Not only heavy rain has to be expected, but also violent gusts that can reach hurricane strength.

Hail of up to five centimeters can also occur.

Thunderstorms would occur on Sunday afternoon and in the evening.

Lightning struck a spruce tree in the Ostallgäu district on Friday, which then crashed onto the roof of a house.

The house sustained moderate damage, police said on Saturday.

On the same day, a motorist got stuck in 70 centimeters of water on a flooded road.

If the storms on Sunday reach the fourth and thus highest warning level, similar damage would be possible.
