The Imperial Palestinian Orthodox Society in Russia today held a ceremony marking the 140th anniversary of its founding, inaugurated by its President, Sergey Stepashin, in the presence of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and a number of official and diplomatic figures.
Syria's ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dr. Riyad Haddad, stressed in a speech during the ceremony that the association contributed an effective and influential role in Syria through its solidarity with the Syrian people in the face of international terrorism, which has not benefited the Syrian society and increased the rapprochement between the Syrian and Russian peoples, which are linked to a glorious and ancient history.
Haddad added that the association also plays an educational role and a key role in conveying the true picture about what is happening in Syria and what the Syrian people are exposed to from extremist Takfiri terrorism throughout the period of the war on their country, pointing out that the association’s representatives participated in all international conferences to counter attempts to undermine Syria’s steadfastness and the people’s steadfastness. Syria in its war against terrorism and called for supporting the efforts of the Syrian government in this context.
Ambassador Haddad stressed that the Syrian people will not forget the association’s interest in providing various humanitarian aids to ease their suffering as a result of the theft of its oil and food resources and its economic siege by the West and America, expressing the Syrian people’s wishes for the association success and success in accomplishing its humanitarian missions.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov delivered a speech in which he stressed that the noble mission of the association is required today, as the situation in the Middle East and in the whole world is no longer easy, explaining that the association was established as an important project to protect citizens who are subjected to persecution and who are displaced from their countries due to extremism and terrorism.
Lavrov pointed out that Western countries have shirked their obligations in the face of extremism, hatred and discrimination, stressing his confidence that the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Assembly will continue not only to strengthen the close relations between Russia and the Holy Land, but also to uphold true ideals and values in the struggle against the imposition of delusional and harmful values espoused by the West.
