Authorities are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information. "Unfortunately, the district has been a frequent target of vandals," police said.

A presumably arson fire destroyed three 19th-century buildings located in the historic district of the city of Morrow, in the state of Georgia, sparking outrage from authorities and neighbors.

"This is a very sad day for our community," said Mayor John Lampl.

"The loss of these beautiful historic homes in the heart of our city is a cruel blow to the residents and community members who use this area," he added.

The fire started at midnight on Saturday and in a few minutes engulfed the houses, leaving a devastating scene.

Firefighters from Morrow and Clayton County, to which the town belongs, quickly moved to the scene and for several hours tried to put out the flames.

Authorities believe that a group of people was inside one of the houses before the fire started.

"Unfortunately, the district has been a frequent target of vandals, even as new tenants have started moving in," said Acting Police Chief David Snively.

"Our detectives have been able to identify several prior offenders, including an attempted arson. We will work tirelessly with arson investigators to also determine the exact facts surrounding this incident," he promised.
