Ukraine believed they had started the match perfectly, as Oleksandr Zinchenko took a quick free kick after 3 minutes and found the back of the net, only for the Spanish referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz to disallow the goal, as the Ukraine player Manchester City executed the play from a set piece before the whistle blew.

Ukraine continued to dominate the opening minutes but were unable to capitalize as Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey made a series of excellent saves.

In the 34th minute, a Gareth Bale free-kick was deflected by Andriy Yarmolenko's header and into the goal to give Rob Page's side the lead, with which they went into half-time.

Both teams had good chances in the second half, with Aaron Ramsey missing for Wales and Roman Yaremchuk for the visitors.

In the end, a goal was enough for Wales to seal their place in the next World Cup.

As with Ukraine's semi-final victory over Scotland last Wednesday, the preparations for the match were highly emotional.

Players and fans once again sang the national anthem in unison as yellow and blue flags dominated the Cardiff City Stadium in Wales.

The Welsh Football Association handed out 100 tickets to Ukrainian refugees living in the area before the match as a gesture of solidarity.

Ukraine coach Oleksandr Petrakov revealed on Saturday that the team had received a flag from his home country which he had hung in the locker room.

The final of this World Cup tie was supposed to take place in March, but was postponed due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Wales qualified for the match by defeating Austria 2–1 on 24 March.

Wales will join England, USA and Iran in Group B at Qatar 2022.

It is the second time that the nation of the British Isles has qualified for the World Cup;

the first was in 1958.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
