The Department of Health announced tonight (June 6) that there were four suspected cases of food poisoning involving a total of four people. On June 3, they went to Maxim's MX fast food restaurant on the ground floor of FWD Financial Center, Des Voeux Road, Sheung Wan for lunch.

On June 3, they went to Maxim's MX fast food restaurant on the ground floor of Central FWD Financial Center on Des Voeux Road in Sheung Wan for lunch. After eating scrambled egg rice with barbecued pork, they experienced abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, and three of them had to be hospitalized.

The Department of Health urges the public to maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases.


The CHP announced that the first case involved a man and a woman, aged 3 and 34.

They had lunch at a restaurant in Sheung Wan on June 3 and developed symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and fever about nine to ten hours after eating; another case involved a man and a woman, both aged 51 , they ate food from the same restaurant on the same day and developed similar symptoms about eight to ten hours later.

Two of them went to a private hospital for medical treatment and needed to be hospitalized; the other two went to a public hospital for medical treatment, and one of them was also hospitalized.

All patients are in stable condition.

The Centre advises the public to prevent food-borne diseases and to maintain personal, food and environmental hygiene at all times.

When eating out, pay attention to the following points:

patronize reliable and licensed restaurants;

Avoid eating raw seafood;

Choose cold cuts carefully, including sashimi, sushi and oysters from the buffet;

When eating hot pot or barbecue, ensure that the food is thoroughly cooked before eating;

handle carefully and separate raw and cooked food thoroughly during cooking;

Use two sets of chopsticks and utensils to handle raw and cooked food separately;

Do not patronize unlicensed food stalls;

drinking boiled water;

Do not try to use salt, vinegar, wine and Japanese wasabi for sterilization, as none of them have antiseptic effect; and

Wash hands before eating and after using the toilet.
