A dream cruise could end in a nightmare for a passenger.

A woman fell into the Mediterranean Sea off Mallorca last weekend - the coast guard is looking desperately.

Barcelona/Munich - It should have been a nice holiday on the high seas: on Saturday evening (June 4th) the cruise ship "Azamara Quest" left the port of Barcelona.

A few hours later, an emergency call caused an uproar - a passenger is said to have fallen off the ship off Mallorca and disappeared in the Mediterranean.

Unfortunately, the first rescue measures were unsuccessful.

Cruising accident off Mallorca

"At two in the morning, the cruise ship 'Azamara Quest' informed our headquarters in Palma about a person who fell into the water 120 kilometers from Mallorca," the British tabloid

Sun

quoted a spokesman for the Spanish coast guard as saying.

There is hardly any more precise information about the missing passenger herself.

As the newspaper reports, it is said to be a middle-aged woman, her nationality is not yet known.

While the Spanish coast guard searched for the missing passenger with two helicopters and a ship, the "Azamara Quest" did not seem to stay long with the missing person.

As a Twitter post by a lawyer specializing in cruises shows, the ship only went back once and turned around a little later to continue on its planned course.

"Doesn't look like the ship did an extensive search," he continues.

Cruise accident off Mallorca: "Azamara Quest" also goes to Morocco

The accident is said to have occurred on the first day of an eight-day cruise around Spain.

On the trip, which according to the

Sun

was only advertised for adults, the Moroccan city of Casablanca was to be headed for in addition to Mallorca.

Next Monday morning (June 13) the "Azamara Quest" is expected to arrive in Malaga after a crossing from Cartagena.
