Wall Street Journal report: Saudi prince speaks of polls showing younger Saudis support diplomatic relations with Israel

Following the publication in "Israel Today":

Saudi Arabia is expanding its secret talks with Israeli leaders, the Wall Street Journal reported today (Monday).

The American newspaper noted that Riyadh and Jerusalem are trying to reach an agreement that may extend the flight permits of Israeli companies in Saudi airspace in exchange for sovereignty over Tiran Egypt.

People who were briefed on the talks told the Wall Street Journal that Saudi Arabia is taking these steps because it sees increasing support from the Saudi public for ties with Israel.

The report also referred to the recent visit to Washington of Saudi Prince Khaled bin Salman, brother of Regent Muhammad bin Salman.

According to the report, the prince said in private conversations that recent polls have shown a decisive change in favor of diplomatic relations with Israel, especially among Saudis under the age of 30.

Sources involved in the efforts told the American newspaper that the establishment of official diplomatic relations is years away, but the measures could accelerate the long-term efforts for normalization.

Meanwhile, a member of the Saudi Shura Council, Ibrahim a-Nahas, told a local channel that the postponement of US President Joe Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia next month was linked to Washington's need to respond to Riyadh's demands. , Responded earlier this week to a question regarding U.S. reports of a postponement of Biden's visit to the Middle East for next month.

According to al-Nahas, "the postponement is until the response to the Saudi requests is completed. Arrangements are being made in accordance with the interests of the kingdom and the region. The main interest is to serve the security, peace and stability in the region."

Contacts between Jerusalem, Washington and Riyadh are in advanced stages, but final agreements have not yet been reached on the details.

Apparently the postponement of Biden's visit to the region, from the original date at the end of June to next month, is related to the desire to reach a comprehensive agreement between the three countries, and only then to embark on a diplomatic "victory round" of the president.
