Under the new crown epidemic, the aviation industry has been severely disrupted, and the pilots who used to be the "Pride of Heaven" have also lost their jobs. A former Dragonair pilot once shared his experience as a KMB captain on social media.

In a recent interview with KMB, it was revealed that there are still about 10 ex-pilots serving as captains. He pointed out that the education of the captains is higher than that of the past, and only a very small number of them held a bachelor's degree. One person has a college or a degree.

KMB also pointed out that the economic situation will affect recruitment, and some people have never planned to enter the bus industry, but by chance, they regard it as a long-term goal.

KMB Assistant Coach Director (West) Yang Jinwei majored in hotel management at university. When he graduated, the financial tsunami hit the hotel industry and the hotel industry was sluggish. Later, he accidentally learned that KMB hired a coach inspector and decided to apply for the job. As a result, it took 14 years for him to try. Promoted from frontline staff to key administrative staff to manage bus operations.

KMB pointed out that positions such as driver and inspector can be regarded as "stepping stones", and employees can be promoted to other positions through internal transfer. Yang Jinwei is not an isolated case.

After graduating from the hotel industry, there was no response to the application for KMB and was once opposed by his family

Yang Jinwei graduated from the University's Department of Hotel Management in 2008. He has always wanted to join the hotel industry, but he was hit by the financial tsunami, the tourism industry, and the hotel industry. If there is a more stable development, I decided to give it a try.

He admitted frankly that he did not plan to develop long-term in the industry at the beginning, "without thinking about it", and that the position of inspector does not require a college degree, and his family also objected at the beginning.

The tourism industry continued to slump. Although Yang Jinwei was hired by a hotel, he knew that the industry was unstable and decided to stay in KMB.

Until 2011, Yang Jinwei successfully applied for an internal job transfer and became the director of vehicle operations. The front-line field staff went to the office to be responsible for the logistics.

Immediately, he realized that there was an opportunity for long-term development, so he decided to continue to develop in the bus industry, and his family no longer objected.

Since then, he has been continuously promoted, and has been promoted to five levels in a row in 10 years. In 2021, he will serve as Assistant Coach Director (West) and become the main administrative staff of KMB, managing bus operations in multiple districts.

During the epidemic period, the captain of the lacking bus had to leave the scene and then pick up the bus as a demonstration

At the age of 37, he managed the operation of Kowloon Bardo. Yang Jinwei said that he had dealt with many typhoons in the past and adjusted his route overnight. During the fifth wave of the epidemic, he was also facing a shortage of manpower. Many drivers were unable to go to work due to infection or quarantine. From April to April, as a part-time driver, he personally carried passengers almost every day. In addition to solving urgent needs, he also hoped to be a "locomotive" and personally demonstrate and lead the work.

Jumped from the insurance industry to the bus industry as a bus captain to get rid of the "big flower"

The 33-year-old Xian Zhisheng also did not plan to develop in the bus industry. He studied accountancy at the university and worked in the insurance industry after graduation. Although the labor is considerable, the consumption is also high. I plan to start a family, but I don't have enough savings to cover my expenses for 3 months.

He later learned from the job advertisement that KMB hired a driver, feeling that his life would be more stable, so he decided to change careers.

Xian bluntly said that the annual salary of the driver is less than half of that of the insurance industry, and he was also opposed by his family at first, but his income became stable, and he also got rid of the bad habit of "big flower pot" back then, and his overall living habits became more regular and healthy, he said with a smile, " Be a normal person."

The family also changed from opposition to support.

He then followed in the footsteps of Yang Jinwei and applied to become a vehicle manager. At the age of 33, he is currently the assistant manager (vehicle) of Longyun.

Majoring in Environmental Management Entry Station Assistant Promoted to Vehicle Inspector Investigating Accidents

27-year-old Huang Qichong graduated from university in 2017, majoring in environmental management, but the situation is similar to Yang Jinwei. At that time, the industry position was shrinking and it was difficult to find a job, so he joined KMB as a station assistant.

I also never thought about the development of the bus industry, but then I was gradually promoted. Now I am a traffic inspector, and I will become a traffic accident investigator to investigate the causes of traffic accidents.

KMB's traffic inspector Wong Kai-chung started out as a station assistant for KMB. Now he is a traffic inspector and will become a traffic accident investigator.

Shifenyi's newly recruited driver has a college degree

Lu Fengjuan, head of the human resources department of KMB, said that in the past, only a few captains held a university degree, and "perhaps only 1% were college students", but now there is an upward trend, and the new recruits are younger.

She agrees that frontline positions can be used as "stepping stones". KMB provides many internal job transfer opportunities, and some positions are less likely to be recruited externally. However, not all college students will change jobs, and some people really like to drive.

According to KMB, according to 2021 data, one out of every 10 recruited captains holds a college degree or above.

Lu Fengjuan, head of the human resources department of KMB, said that there is an upward trend in the number of bus captains with university degrees.

KMB aims to hire 1,200 captains this year

Yang Jinwei and Huang Qichong also joined the bus industry because it was difficult for the bank to develop. Lv Fengjuan agrees that it is easier to hire people during the economic downturn. Under the epidemic, more people from the aviation industry apply, and now there are about 10 pilots serving as bus captains.

She went on to point out that after the economy recovers, some people will leave their jobs and re-enter the industry, but some people will continue to develop in KMB. For example, a former tour guide stated clearly that they may not re-enter the tourism industry.

She said that she plans to hire 1,200 car captains this year. In addition, more than 100 people will be recruited for positions such as station masters, inspectors, and maintenance personnel to support the development.
