Coalition members took selfies and forgot to vote: Watch how Berl Katzenelson's law fell | Israel today

Ram Shefa, who was supposed to present the law, and his friends were busy filming to celebrate the approval of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act that had passed before • Later they were given a second chance to vote, but this time too they did not pay attention

The coalition's blow yesterday (Monday) in the Judea and Samaria Regulations Law may overthrow the government, but on the long night of voting in the Knesset another embarrassing example was received of its members' shaky performance: the Berl Katzenelson Law, promoted by the Labor Party Fell in the plenum after the MKs "dreamed" during the session and missed the vote.

It should be noted that according to an early summary, the opposition was also supposed to support the law, so the responsibility for the embarrassment is divided between the parties.

This is a law agreed upon as part of a deal between the two sides: members of the center-left bloc were supposed to support a bill to anchor a national commemoration day for Rabbi Kook - which did pass in the plenum yesterday - and in return opposition members were supposed to support the parallel bill on Berl Katzenelson.

Although, as stated, the responsibility for the embarrassment is divided between the parties, at the time of the vote only six MKs were present in the plenum who voted, so the coalition could easily have secured the majority required for the approval of the law.

Things went awry even earlier.

When MK Yaakov Asher asked Torah Judaism, who chaired the yeshiva, to raise the proposal for the first time, it became clear that coalition members - including Ram Shefa who was supposed to introduce the law - were busy taking selfies to celebrate the passage of the Disabled Rights Act.

"Ram Shefa is here or is he being photographed now? Where is Ram Shefa?", Asher exclaimed from the stand.

After a few seconds he announced awkwardly: "I move on to the next bill."

Later that night, Asher decided to give the billers a second chance, and resubmitted the proposal.

However, this time too, the secretive conduct of the coalition members, who did not pay attention to what was happening, continued, and the proposal fell after a 3: 3 draw in the vote.

The stunned coalition members tried to persuade Asher to re-vote, but he replied, "Friends, I know I'm new, I have 'learned' in the back - but not to make a round of myself."
