Should a 240 m long pond be drained to transform it into an inert waste storage facility?
In Plémet, in the Côtes-d'Armor, the Carrières Lessard project is not unanimous, far from it.
The municipal council must decide this Wednesday if the municipality, owner of the site, agrees to rent it to the company.
The latter already operates a storage facility for this type of waste
(concrete, brick, glass, tile, earth, stone)
in a neighboring town, but its capacity will soon run out.
Hence the idea of recovering the Pas de Plémet pond to pile up new rubble there.
A logical choice for Bertrand Lessard since the artificial pond was a former kaolin quarry.
"It would be enough to empty the water and clear 3000 m2", explains the entrepreneur.
A small corner of biodiversity appreciated by walkers
Except that the pill does not pass on the side of many inhabitants who have even created a collective "Together let's save the pond of Pas à Plémet" to make their voices heard.
They do not imagine for a moment sacrificing this little corner of biodiversity appreciated by walkers and mountain bikers.
Birds, salamanders, fish, toads and deer mingle there.
According to the collective, the pond would feed several streams and bodies of water around.
Fishermen would be worried about the impact on fish.

The Pas site could accommodate one million tonnes of waste over ten years.
Will they all be inert and harmless?
The collective in doubt.
“Who will go and check what we put in there?
How can you be sure that in a 20 tonne tipper there is no asbestos slate, for example?
asks Philippe Rémon, the spokesperson.
The fate of the pond is in the hands of the chosen ones.
