Maintain "dynamic training" under the new crown epidemic to help the recovered patients fight against the long new crown symptoms

The epidemic has lasted for nearly two years, and everyone's attention has naturally turned to infected patients and isolation measures. However, there are actually other non-COVID-19 patients in the community who have also been seriously affected.

Taking patients with various pain symptoms, post-operative recovery and post-stroke recovery as examples, some of them are worried that going out will be infected or restricted by quarantine orders, so they cannot go to hospitals or clinics for physiotherapy.

Of course, if it is only limited for a week or two, it may not have a great impact, but when the fifth wave of the epidemic is raging, the number of daily infections continues to rise, and the impact is also very long, which does hinder patients from receiving treatment.

In addition to strengthening disinfection and all colleagues wearing "full armor" to treat patients, the author's clinic will also provide extra support to some patients who cannot come to the clinic in an extraordinary way.

During the fifth wave of the epidemic, some patients called to ask about their condition and how to do simple treatment and exercise at home to prevent their condition from getting worse during the epidemic.

Physiotherapists will give advice on home therapy by phone or video call, and will also use a mobile application (App) to send short videos of rehabilitation exercises prescribed by physiotherapists to patients to practice at home, so that they can practice at home or with their families. With the assistance of , you can continue to maintain the physical state for "dynamic training".

If the patient needs some simple sports equipment or other medical supplies, the clinic will also give advice or order and deliver it directly to the patient's home, so that they can carry out rehabilitation training without leaving home.

Now that the epidemic is largely under control, I would like to share some information about the "Long Covid" with you here.

In March this year, the Department of Rehabilitation Science of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University published a study on patients who recovered from the new crown virus, and found that about 40% of the local patients who recovered from the new crown virus had symptoms of "long-term new crown", including shortness of breath, fatigue, and weak legs, etc. Symptoms are more common in women.

The current definition of recovery from Covid-19 mainly refers to recovery from viral infections, but just like any other disease or surgery, recovery of bodily functions begins after recovery from the disease.

The author suggests that people who have recovered from the new crown can "get out" of the epidemic. Taking advantage of the government's reopening of park facilities and other sports venues, everyone can go outside and do some activities, such as quick walking (the amount of exercise may be a little short of breath, but you can still say a word. Full sentences are suggestions) or simple hand and foot movements.

If your physical condition permits, you can also conduct swimming and equipment fitness training (you can ask a coach to guide you if necessary).

However, if the health situation is more complicated, you can go to the hospital or clinic to consult a physiotherapist and conduct rehabilitation training to speed up the progress of rehabilitation.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation training cannot be completely replaced by telemedicine (Tele-medicine / Tele-rehabilitation), and most of the treatments still require physical therapists to handle and assist with other equipment.

However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it is inconvenient for patients to go out, or when there is no way to receive physical therapy at a rehabilitation clinic close to their residence (for example, due to the rapid development of the Greater Bay Area and the shortage of medical professionals), remote consultation with physical therapists Still a good development plan.

Telemedicine helps fight the epidemic online diagnosis and provides appropriate treatment for home-isolated patients

The relationship between doctors and patients under telemedicine Can telemedicine break the imbalance between public and private medical care in Hong Kong?
