Matthew McConaughey "takes over" the White House: Battle for Arms Reform kicks off Israel today

2022-06-07T19:12:35.946Z

Against the background of buds in Senate cooperation for legislation to combat the lack of oversight of incompetent arms buyers, the Biden administration recruited the famous actor, who grew up in the town of Yuvaldi where the horrific massacre took place at the school

"We need to raise the minimum age to 21 to buy guns, we need sensible rules," said the famous actor Matthew McConaughey, who attacked the current situation in the United States, which allows almost anyone to buy a weapon if they have no violent criminal record. "That most Americans are, we are not divided as we are told," he said.

McConaughey carried the words while on the podium of the White House briefing room, while the White House spokeswoman's daily press conference is usually held.

The symbolic move is intended to convey the determination of the Biden administration to change the gun laws, as much as possible within the framework of a constitution that prohibits strict laws.

McConaughey was born and raised in Yuvaldi, Texas, where the massacre took place at Rob Elementary School a few weeks ago and is also a resident of the state and may run for a senior political position in the future.

As you may recall, in a massacre in the town, 19 children and two teachers were murdered by a man who apparently had severe social problems that also included threats against women but was not prevented from buying weapons in irrational quantities and without proper qualifications.

The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as construed in the Supreme Court, prevents the federal government from banning the sale of weapons extensively but allows for background checks and allows legislation that restricts the possession of weapons for reasonable self-defense purposes and without military means.

For example, it is forbidden to buy an automatic weapon, but on the other hand people should not be prevented from buying a shotgun or assault rifles of various types as long as they undergo a basic background check.

On the other hand, there is no enforcement on the transfer of weapons from person to person other than through authorized sellers, such as at various shows or as a gift, and there is no need to make a formal application for licenses in some states in the US.

McConaughey also met with Biden, and also visited Capitol Hill with lawmakers.

Although the road to far-reaching changes in limiting the sale of weapons and the amount of ammunition is far away, it seems that at least in the area of background checks and mental state there has been progress between the two parties.

Senate Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell said he hopes it will be possible to reach agreements on legislation to expand background checks on purchasers and upgrade school security.
