In the "Schützenhaus" new life returns after the vacancy.

The future innkeeper Gregor Klug will soon be offering Bavarian tapas, among other things, in the Jachenau instead of taking care of securities as before.

Jachenau

- The Jachenau "Schützenhaus" is an important center of village life, but also a popular contact point for day trippers.

However, events such as the recent citizens’ assembly had to take place there without catering in the past few months: after landlady Martina Riesch had to say goodbye after two difficult years during the Corona period, a new operator was urgently needed.

Now it is clear: From July 1st we will continue with a new host.

It is a trained banker from the other end of Bavaria.

From the bank to the "Schützenhaus"

Gregor Klug (54) is full of enthusiasm when he talks about his plans for the Jachenau "Schützenhaus".

Even though he currently lives about a five-hour drive away in Obernburg in the Lower Franconian district of Miltenberg, he is very familiar with the location.

Since he was out with his wife Tanja (42) late at night 15 years ago on the Kochelsee and accidentally ended up in a Jachenau guesthouse looking for accommodation, he reports that it has happened to him.

"Since then, we've been coming to Jachenau at least once a year." The couple had even considered moving here for a long time.

It's no wonder that Klug took notice when he was browsing the E-Bay classifieds internet platform for suitable properties in February - and discovered that a new landlord was being sought for the "Schützenhaus".

The Lower Franconian reported to the lessor community consisting of a rifle club, ski club, traditional costume association and tourism association.

And meanwhile – after “a lot of good talks”, according to Klug – a contract has been signed.

It will be a drastic career change for Klug.

He worked at various banks for a total of 24 years, mainly in the securities area, he explains.

But he wasn't really happy there.

"I wasn't born for a job where I'm in the office 9 to 5," he says.

In addition, at his last job, commuting to Frankfurt, 65 kilometers away, weighed on him.

Gastro experience in "diner with a dance floor"

Before that, Klug had made trips to other sectors - and gained experience in the catering trade.

In his own words, he ran a “restaurant with a dance floor and music performances” near Aschaffenburg for five years in the 1990s.

Later, in 2016, he became self-employed in the IT industry.

His wife accompanies him during the current restart in Jachenau.

Tanja Klug is also giving up her office job for this.

In the "Schützenhaus" she will be responsible for accounting, administration and event planning.

"You will rarely see her in the guest room," says her husband.

As chef de cuisine, he has – also through E-Bay classifieds – gained a 64-year-old experienced chef who, after having worked on the North and Baltic Seas and on the Spanish islands, has run his own restaurant in Ludwigsburg, reports Klug.

From there he also brings some equipment with him - such as an outdoor grill or tapas counters, where he wants to offer Bavarian appetizers from Obazdn to home-made sausages in the "Schützenhaus".

All in all, the new team naturally relies on traditional Bavarian cuisine.

Klug would also like to ask around in the near and far for recipes that can be prepared at home in the kitchen - according to the motto: "what grandmother still knew".

Klug wants to continue the concept of his predecessor Martina Riesch insofar as he will rely on regional suppliers.

Jachenau is "original, but not backward"

As far as events are concerned, there is a solid basis in the "Schützenhaus" with over 40 dates a year - anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, Corpus Christi, church fairs.

In addition, the new landlord is planning to bring artists from the region to the hall for music concerts or cabaret evenings.

The Klug couple is currently still looking for an apartment in the Isarwinkel.

The people of Jachenau have already welcomed him and his wife very warmly, helpfully and "without resentment", he enthuses.

The Jachenau is “originally village-like”.

"But that shouldn't be confused with backwards," emphasizes Klug.

"This open-hearted friendliness to foreigners in Jachenau is something that you don't see that often."

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.
