Do you give your dog bones?
Maybe you should go for broccoli instead.
New research reveals that actually feeding your dog vegetables is healthier and safer than meat.
The largest study on dog health examined 2,536 dog owners who fed them cooked and uncooked meat versus a vegetarian diet.
The study found that the safest and least dangerous choice for dogs' health is a vegetarian diet that includes vegetables and no meat at all.
Andrew Knight, a veterinarian and professor of animal welfare at the University of Winchester, published the results of the study and said that "a statistical analysis of the results of the study revealed that overall, dogs fed a conventional diet were less healthy than dogs that ate only raw meat or a vegan / vegetarian diet." Dogs that ate raw meat were healthier than those who lived on a vegan diet, "he said, but researchers noted a number of factors that prevent them from concluding that raw meat nutrition is healthier.

The dogs that lived on a raw meat diet were significantly younger than those on a vegan diet, which may explain why they appear to be healthier.
In addition, owners of dogs that ate raw meat were less likely to take them to the vet, and previous studies have indicated that dog owners who eat raw meat are less likely to seek veterinary advice.
In addition, previous studies have linked raw meat diets to dogs with an increased risk of pathogens (bacteria and fungi) and nutritional deficiencies.
Prof Knight believes further research is still needed to confirm whether raw meat or a vegan diet are linked to a dog's better health.
There are many factors that may influence dog owners to choose an unconventional diet for their pets, including concern for the environment, caring for animals used as food and concern for the health of their pets.
