Landsberg – Cycling on the Münchener Straße is no picnic.

In order to change that, at least to some extent, the city of Landsberg is starting a traffic test there today.

The aim is to "create safe and comfortable footpaths and cycle paths along the main axes", informs city press spokeswoman Susanne Flügel.

Markings are placed on the road for this purpose.

The section of Münchener Strasse intended for the traffic test as part of the city's walking and cycling mobility concept extends from the junction with Epfenhausener Strasse to the Allguth petrol station.

The work will only take two to four days, says Flügel.

Specifically, a so-called optional strip is marked with a width of 1.25 meters - with a broken line to the rest of the roadway, so drivers are allowed to drive into the area of the strip.

The wheel symbol should be painted several times.

In addition, the center line of the entire roadway will be removed.

The Münchener Straße is an important east-west traffic axis, also for bicycle traffic, says Flügel.

There are currently 13,443 motor vehicles driving there every day, six percent of which is freight traffic.

"For cyclists, this represents a subjectively dangerous situation."

Traffic data was collected for the traffic test in April.

During the one-year trial, the proportion of bicycle traffic is to be surveyed twice at intervals of six months in order to assess any improvements.

The city of Landsberg asks all road users, especially motorized ones, to show mutual caution and consideration.
