A man fires shots in a supermarket in Schwalmstadt, northern Hesse.
Two people die.
The investigation is ongoing.
Schwalmstadt – Shots were fired at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday (June 7) in a discounter in Schwalmstadt (Schwalm-Eder district).
Two people were killed, police said shortly afterwards.
The officers were on site with a strong contingent.
There was no danger to the population, it said.
Shortly after the crime, the alarmed police forces found two dead people in the discount store on Wierastrasse in the Treysa district.
According to the police, the investigation is now in full swing.

Shots in Schwalmstadt: Man shoots woman and then himself
After the first investigations into the course of the crime, according to the police, there are currently no indications of the involvement of third parties.
According to consistent testimonies, a man shot a woman in the market and then immediately took his own life.
So far, nothing has been said about the number of shots.
According to the current state of knowledge of the police, no other people were injured apart from the 53-year-old woman who was killed and the 58-year-old man.

According to a witness who observed the scene, the perpetrator initially pursued the woman in the Aldi branch on Wierastrasse.
She then called out for help, but was then shot by her pursuer.
The man then turned the gun on himself.

As the witness goes on to describe, many customers would not have noticed the crime at first.
It sounded like a glass had broken, the woman told the newspaper.
Only then did they realize what had happened.

The situation in the parking lot of the discounter is now quiet.
Seven patrol cars, civilian police vehicles, an ambulance and two ambulances were parked in front of the building.
Employees and customers were looked after in a cafe that borders the market.
The ambulances and emergency vehicles left the area in the early afternoon, while numerous police officers and vehicles could still be seen, as well as workers in protective suits and emergency chaplains.
A manageable number of onlookers, mostly young people, stayed longer at the driveway.

Since customers and employees have fled the store in a hurry, there are half-full shopping trolleys in the aisles and groceries on the checkout belts.

Shots in Schwalmstadt: investigative work begins at the crime scene
According to the police, the background and the exact sequence of events are not yet known.
In an impromptu press conference in the cordoned off parking lot shortly before 3 p.m., police press spokesman Markus Brettschneider gave the few reliable details to the waiting reporters.
He did not give any details about the circumstances, he referred to the responsible public prosecutor's office.
Questions about the status of the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim and their origins also remained unanswered.
According to information from the police officers on site, other officers, including those from forensics, were expected in the afternoon.
The Marburg public prosecutor's office is in charge of the investigation.
