Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the liberation of the city of Svyatogorsk in the Donetsk People's Republic from Ukrainian forces, pointing to the surrender of about 6.5 thousand Ukrainian soldiers since the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
"A large part of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics was liberated along the left bank of the Seversky Donet River, including the cities of Krasnyi Lyman and Svyatogorsk, in addition to 15 other towns," Shoigu said during today's meeting.
He added, "The residential areas in the city of Severodonetsk in the Lugansk Republic were also completely liberated," referring to the development of the offensive on the axis of the neighboring city of Popasnaya.
Shoigu stated that the total number of Ukrainian soldiers who have surrendered since the beginning of the Russian special operation until now has reached 6489.
Shoigu pointed out that during the past ten days of the operation in Ukraine, Russian forces destroyed 51 pieces of military equipment that were supplied to the Ukrainian army from abroad. An armored combat vehicle, 21 155mm howitzers, two rocket launchers, and 16 drones.
