According to the plans of Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU), women in Brandenburg should be better protected against domestic violence.
A draft law provides that in future the perpetrators can be expelled from the apartment for not just ten days but two weeks.
This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior on Saturday, the "Märkische Oderzeitung" had previously reported on the legislative plans.
Potsdam – The period can be extended by a further two weeks.
In high-risk cases, electronic ankle tags should also be possible for potential violent and sex offenders.
The plan that the police can use small body cameras (bodycams) when entering apartments in the event of domestic violence is controversial.
The use of bodycams in living spaces, planned by former Interior Minister Karl-Heinz Schröter (SPD), failed in the 2019 state parliament.
In 2019, the police counted 4,371 crimes related to domestic violence.
In the corona pandemic, the number increased drastically to 5235 cases in 2020 and then fell back somewhat to 5073 last year.
When the crime statistics were presented in March, Interior Minister Stübgen announced that the country must not let up in the fight against domestic and sexualised violence.
"We need modern and comprehensive victim protection," said Stübgen.
