He wanted to save a human life and was hit by a police car in Munich and injured so badly that he has been in a wheelchair ever since.

For the father of four Basar A. and his family, the serious accident now threatens the existence.

Munich – How often has Basar A. (44) been operated on?

The Munich has stopped counting.

The taxi driver and father of four is in a wheelchair and doesn't know if he'll ever be able to walk again.

He barely survived a terrible accident with a police car.

All because he wanted to save a human life!

His story is that of a hero - and a story of great suffering...

Munich: Taxi driver wants to help the casualty and is hit by emergency vehicles

"I can still remember the squeaking of the tires - then everything was black," says Basar A. It's New Year's Eve around 1:45 am.

The Obersendlinger taxi driver is driving on Ludwigstrasse when he sees a drunk near the state library.

"He fell on his head from a height of several meters and remained motionless." Bazaar didn't hesitate for a second, parked and ran to the injured man.

When a police car with flashing blue lights approaches the scene of the accident, Basar hopes for help – and steps onto the road to wave.

The police car cannot brake in time.

It rams Bazaar in the hip, throwing him into the street.

Basar A. has already had a good 20 operations.

The doctors later tell his wife: "It's almost a miracle that he survived." Bazaar suffers from a triple pelvic fracture, a thigh and lower leg fracture, a craniocerebral trauma and cracked vertebrae, the large intestine has burst.

But he survives.

He was in a coma for weeks, first in the Bogenhauser Klinikum and then in Murnau.

"When I woke up again, I thought, this is a bad dream." He will probably have to stay in Murnau for the whole year.

He's trying to learn to walk again.

"I'm afraid that I'll remain in need of care, that I'll be a burden on the family."

Investigations into the traffic accident on New Year's Eve continue

Almost all of his thoughts are with his family.

Bazaar's wife Anja (44) is a housewife and had to put her civil engineering studies on hold because of her four children (four, eight, ten and 13 years old).

In addition, his ten-year-old daughter has leukemia.

Currently the family lives on donations (see below).

Incidentally, it wasn't Bazaar's first heroic act: he was still a student when a man fell on the track bed at the Karl-Preis-Platz subway station.

The young bazaar jumps after him, heaves him up with helpers – just before the train comes to a halt.

At that time he received the rescue medal from Edmund Stoiber...

This time a police car crashed into the rescuer.

The question arises: Who is to blame for the accident?

The public prosecutor says: "The extensive investigations into the traffic accident on New Year's Eve are still ongoing, so the results of the investigations are not yet available." Among other things, a forensic and a traffic-related expert report was commissioned.

Munich: The big relief effort for the family of Basar A.

"It's a terrible story," says Thomas Kroker from the board of directors of Taxi München eG (below).

After the accident, it was immediately clear to him: Basar A. needs help!

A fundraiser among taxi drivers has already raised a sum that has kept the family afloat for the first four months.

But the money is now slowly running out.
