A group of Syrian inventors and researchers are preparing a preparation of Shami rose water with pistachio peel extract and gum to prepare it as a toothpaste for mouthwash, antiseptic and treatment for mouth wounds, receding gums and unpleasant odor after his idea was presented during the activities of the Al-Bassel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention.
Agricultural Engineer Omar Al-Jabai, member of the Executive Office of the Syrian Students Union, one of the members of the research team, indicated that a group of specialized scientific expertise in Syrian universities presented the idea during the Al-Basel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention, and it is summarized in the production of a product of Shami rose water to prepare toothpaste and antiseptic mouthwash through the use of phenols. extracted from the Damascene rose, indicating that the product will be presented in pharmaceutical form “packages” for mouth rinses, oral gel and toothpaste for the care of the health of the mouth, tongue and teeth.
The idea received great support and interest from the Syrian Trust for Development, according to Al-Jabai, which contributed to turning it into a project under implementation that would represent an important step for the effective investment of the Damascene Rose and make it an important economic supporter for farmers, manufacturers and those interested by making use of its products industrially, encouraging farmers to increase production and motivating others to enter the field of competition and offer products Finally, supporting the national economy through the proceeds of export operations.
Dr. Ibrahim Turkmani, a professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at Al-Baath University and a member of the team, explained that the combination of toothpaste or mouthwash produced from rose water with pistachio peel extract is characterized by its richness in aromatic and phenolic compounds, which have an antibacterial and antifungal effect that affects the oral cavity as well as a fragrant effect. To get rid of unpleasant odors in the mouth, it has an antiseptic effect, analgesic for dental pain, anti-inflammation of the mouth and pharynx, in addition to its aromatic smell. It also contains substances that help protect against tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath, according to a 2016 study on oral health.
According to Turkmani, the formulation of the preparation is also characterized by being safe and can be swallowed, and therefore does not pose a danger as the rest of the oral rinses, which are not allowed to be swallowed because they contain chemicals. Therefore, it is necessary to use safe compounds that do not cause harm as a result of ingestion of children who constitute the segment most vulnerable to oral ulcers. Painful and thrush.
Regarding the work stages, Turkmani explained that a patent was registered at the Property Protection Directorate at the Ministry of Internal Trade, and an agreement was made with a manufacturing partner, a “pharmaceutical factory,” and experimental samples of the product were produced, provided that commercial production will start locally at the beginning of next year 2023, and it is expected to be exported to many countries Later, he pointed out that the preparation is the first of its kind prepared from the products of the Damascene Rose and has competitive advantages as an unconventional natural product and its costs are not high.
For his part, Dr. Shadi Khatib, President of the Syrian Scientific Society of Medicinal Herbs and Complementary Medicine, a member of the research team, pointed out that the role of the Society is mainly focused on introducing local, herbal and natural primary resources that can be used to increase and develop the added value of the Syrian product, noting that the Society conducts scientific courses for the manufacture of rose products. Levantine, whether leather, cosmetic or food, as well as training farmers to grow the Damascene rose according to the standard conditions to obtain the highest percentages of volatile oil, the correct picking and preservation methods, and the optimal methods for distillation and preservation of distillates.
It is noteworthy that the work is the result of a joint effort by researchers in the Faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry at Al-Baath University, the Faculty of Agriculture at Aleppo University, the National Union of Syrian Students, the Syrian Private University and the Syrian Pharmacists Syndicate.
