On the Internet, sympathy for the fate of women is great.
But also with the local people who took care of the Ukrainians when they arrived in Bavaria after fleeing.
One of them is Waldemar Meyer.
In a video, he reports to the BR how he found out about the death of one of the two women.
Train accident in Garmisch: refugee helpers had planned an excursion with an accident woman
He was on vacation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the time of the accident and only found out on Whit Monday that the woman he was supporting as a refugee helper had died.
He found this news to be “rather shocking, of course”.
He had planned a short trip to Lake Constance with the woman and her son for the next few days, "then fate strikes".
Waldemar Meyer finds it particularly appalling that this woman "reluctantly left her own country" out of fear for her son, "in the hope of returning as soon as possible" and that this "unexpected, terrible fate" has now overtaken her.
