The initiative for a "Bavarian cycling decision" raises hopes for improvements in cycling in the Starnberg district.

The local branches of ADFC and Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) are campaigning for support.

District – Last week, the “Radentscheid Bayern” alliance announced that it would collect signatures for a referendum in favor of a more bicycle-friendly transport policy in Bavaria.

The Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrradclub (ADFC) in the Starnberg district and the Fürstenfeldbruck-Starnberg district association of the Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) have now announced their support for the project.

The ADFC district chairman Anton Maier said that the initiative took up exactly the deficiency from which cycling in the district was suffering.

The VCD district chairman, Heinrich Moser, says that despite isolated improvements, there are still many gaps in the cycle path network.

In a press release, the ADFC takes up the cycle path connection from Würmtal to Starnberg.

The failure of the plans meant that "there will be no safe and continuous bike connection between the communities in the Würmtal valley and Starnberg," district chairman Maier is quoted as saying.

The everyday cycle routes Steinebach-Weßling, Unterbrunn-Gilching Süd and Starnberg-Tutzing are also affected.

The VCD district chairman Moser reports: "New road construction measures even cause further, safety-related impairments".

This applies, for example, to the bypasses in Mamhofen and Weßling or the planned railway underpass in Königswiesen.

That is why they will “actively support the Radentscheid for Bavaria”.

The alliance "Radentscheid Bayern" was founded by the state associations of ADFC and VCD as well as the initiators of eleven municipal Radentscheids in Bavarian cities.

It is supported by the Bund Naturschutz and the state associations of SPD, Greens, ÖDP, Linke and Volt.

The aim of the initiators is "a bicycle law for Bavaria that obliges the state government and local authorities to implement environmentally friendly mobility in practice".

Concrete goals include improvements in bicycle parking facilities, bicycle infrastructure and bicycle transport on public transport, as well as overland cycle paths without crossings.

The collection of signatures is scheduled to begin on June 16th.

If 25,000 signatures from voters in Bavaria come together, a referendum can start.

Then around a million signatures are needed for a referendum to take place.
