Thirty-two housing associations and actors, united in the collective Herrian bizi ("housing in the Basque Country"), met on Wednesday evening in front of the headquarters of the Basque Country Agglomeration Community (CAPB), in Bayonne, to shout their anger.
They protest against the proliferation of seasonal rentals in this tourist region where the population has not been able to find accommodation for a long time, as prices have skyrocketed as the number of second homes has exploded.
On March 5, the elected officials of the agglomeration nevertheless voted, at 95%, a new regulation directly targeting Airbnb-type rentals in a “tense zone” of 24 municipalities, mainly coastal.
