The countdown began for the second round of the 2022 Colombian presidential elections, where it will be decided whether the next president will be Gustavo Petro or Rodolfo Hernández.

As on all election days, the voting juries play an essential role.

The more than 690,000 citizens who were designated by lottery as voting jurors for the first round of May 29 must once again fulfill this function in the June 19 elections, according to information from the National Registry. 

During the elections, the juries must verify the identity of the voters, make the general registry, deliver the ballots where the vote is marked and authorize the voters to introduce the votes in the ballot boxes, according to the Registrar's Office.

How to confirm that you are a voting jury?

The Registry's lottery to select the jurors is done through a program that includes data on citizens nominated by public and private companies, educational centers, and political parties and movements.

Although the list from the first round is maintained, if you want to verify the information you can access the Registry page at the link eleccioncolombia.registraduria.gov.co, where you just have to enter your ID number and verify the data.

Training for the second round

For the first round, the jurors had to participate in specific training.

In this second instance, the Registry enabled a complementary training that you can access through this link.

To enroll, you must first be registered in the National

Apprenticeship Service system, which you can also do online.

Is it mandatory?

Yes. In accordance with article 105 of the Electoral Code, the position of voting jury is mandatory.

Only in the event that the jury is seriously ill or their spouse, father, mother or child, or if a close relative has died, can they be excused from this mandatory service.

If they do not attend, those selected may be sanctioned with a fine equivalent to 10 current monthly legal minimum wages, that is, about 10 million pesos (about US$ 2,487 at the current exchange rate).

The changes implemented in May

Due to the fact that possible irregularities in the pre-counting of the votes were denounced in the congressional elections, for the May elections juries were changed to voting tables where "human errors or possible irregularities" occurred when filling out the pre-count formats E14, Colombia's registrar, Alexander Vega, said at the time.
