Studies of cat year conversions show that cats age much faster than their owners.
But how old is your house tiger in human years?
West Sussex (England) - Studies show that cats live an average of just 14 years, which is equivalent to 70 human years.
Although our beloved velvet paws go through the same stages of life as we do, they usually only live a fraction of our lifetime.
We reveal what you need to know about converting cat years to human years and what you need to consider.

Convert cat years to human years: your kitty really is that old
It is often said that to calculate the age of a dog or cat in human years, multiply it by seven.
However, this is not correct for both pets.
A cat year corresponds to an average of four to five human years.
However, it should be noted that this relationship is not proportional in cats: aging starts very quickly in cats, but slows down with age.
“Between the ages of three and six, cats are in the prime of life and are usually at the peak of their physical fitness.
This period covers the age from 24 to 40 years in human years,” says Dr.
Lucinda Alderton-Sell, field veterinary officer at Cats Protection, told Newsweek.
Therefore, one would have to calculate more than five human years per cat year in the first three years of life.
When the cat is fully grown, this ratio balances out again and you can count on four to five human years per cat year.
Convert cat years to human years: retirement age at 14
Between the ages of seven and ten, cats are entering a more mature age where they may slow down a bit and gain weight.
That equates to a human age of mid-40s to mid-50s. Cats then reach retirement age at 14, which is roughly 70 human years.
"In this phase of life, they need more rest and tend to have a slower pace of life," explains Dr.
Interview with Lucinda Alderton Sell.
"If they live to be 21, that would be 100 years in human life and their health will probably deteriorate."

Convert cat years to human years: age is not the only factor
Unlike humans, a cat's age is not always easy to determine from the outside, as cats rarely turn gray or show any outward signs of pain or illness.
How old cats get cannot be said in general.
Similar to humans, various factors such as health, diet and environment influence their life expectancy.
However, the conversion from cat years to human years should only be used as a guide.
Because even an old cat can still be playful and curious.
Or she likes to lounge around, although she is still young.
The behavior is not only related to the age, but also to the character of a cat.
In the following table you can see how old your own cat would be in corresponding human years:
Six months = 10 human years
Two years = 24 human years
Five years = 36 human years
10 years = 56 human years
12 years = 64 human years
14 years = 70 human years
21 years = 100 human years
