A state of chaos engulfed Italian airports after the crews of Ryanair, EasyJet and Volotti announced the start of a strike today, coinciding with the suspension of air traffic controllers, causing hundreds of flights to be cancelled.
Reuters quoted a spokesman for the union UEL Trasporte as saying: The strike, which lasted for hours, caused the cancellation of 360 flights for about four thousand passengers after several unions called for the strike to protest against wage cuts and difficult working conditions.
This strike coincided with another strike called by air traffic controllers, which prompted ETA to divert about 99 percent of its passengers, according to a statement issued by the company.
Travelers across Europe have faced many flight delays and cancellations over the past week as airlines and airports struggle to revive travel with the onset of the summer season.
