In order to encourage them to market their crop to the company and to prevent their exploitation by traders, the Homs Grape Processing Company offers incentive benefits to grape growers, including financial advances and the provision of fuel at the subsidized price, by concluding contracts with agricultural associations in Homs.
The director of the company, Engineer Manal Asad, said in a statement to SANA that a contract has been made to purchase 3,400 tons of juicy white grapes to date, and the process continues amid a growing demand from farmers, noting that financial advances to agricultural associations worth about 600 million Syrian pounds, at a rate of 200,000 Syrian pounds for each ton delivered to the company To help farmers complete service operations for the crop by watering and spraying pesticides, in parallel, 10 liters of diesel were sold at the subsidized price for each ton of grapes delivered during the past year to encourage farmers to market their crop to the company.
The director of the company indicated that engineers and technical workers are currently carrying out maintenance work for production lines and preparing them to receive the crop during the month of September, pointing out that the price has not yet been determined, pending an evaluation of the cost of the price of one kilogram of grapes by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Economic Committee.
Regarding production, Asad pointed out that until the end of last May, it amounted to 193 tons of various products, while 170 tons were sold at a value of about 1.5 billion pounds, indicating that during the past year 15 tons were exported to America and Austria.
It is noteworthy that Homs governorate ranks first in the country in terms of the areas planted with vineyards, which amount to 190,000 dunums, irrigated and rainfed, according to the 2021 statistic. thousand tons.
