This Wednesday, in a pre-recorded video, Miah was asked what she wants to be different after the massacre in Uvalde.

She replied, "Be safe."

Asked by an interviewer if she feels safe at school, she shook her head.

"Because I don't want her to repeat herself," she said.

Also, when asked if he thinks it will happen again, he nodded.

Miguel Cerrillo, Miah's father, spoke through tears, saying the shooting had changed his daughter.

"Today I come because I could have lost my girl," he said.

"She's not the same girl she used to play with, run with and do everything with, because she was daddy's girl," she said.

Miguel Cerrillo has five children and Miah is the middle one.

He described her as "everything, not just for me but for her brothers and her mother."

"Thank you for allowing me to be here and speak, but I want something to change, not only for our children but for all children in the world, because schools are no longer safe," he said.

"Something really has to change."

A "butcher shop" in Uvalde

Roy Guerrero, a Texas pediatrician, described a "butcher shop in my hometown of Uvalde."

Guerrero said he was present at Uvalde Memorial Hospital on the day of the mass shooting.

"I will never forget what I saw that day," he said.

This mother lost her son, but rejects gun control

Lucretia Hughes, a conservative activist with the right-wing group Turning Point USA, spoke at the hearing about how her son was killed in 2016 by a convicted felon with an illegally obtained firearm.

"Words cannot describe how hard it is to bury a child. I hurt for each and every one who has done the same," he said.

"My son's death was the result of a criminal with an evil heart and a justice system that failed to hold him accountable for laws he had already broken," he added.

Hughes has spoken out against gun control laws, describing them as "laced with racism" and saying those who promote them are "delusional."

"St. Louis, New York, Chicago, Washington, Atlanta are utopias of gun control and they are the ones that are plagued by the most violence," he said.
