The Director of Industry in Lattakia, Engineer Rami Kahilah, revealed that 49 small and medium-sized enterprises have been licensed since the beginning of the year to date, most of them in the industrial areas, of which 35 are industrial enterprises and the rest are handicrafts that will provide 85 job opportunities upon completion.
In a statement to SANA, Kahilah indicated that these facilities work in the field of storage and refrigeration, manufacturing halva and liquid chocolate, in addition to pressing olives, ready-made clothes, sterile materials and detergents.
Kahilah pointed out the importance of issuing controls and instructions related to licensing agricultural and industrial establishments that depend on agricultural products and settling existing ones outside the organizational schemes, especially with regard to dealing with agricultural crop surpluses and achieving an added economic value for agricultural production, both plant and animal.
He said, "The new instructions will contribute to improving farmers' income by selling their crops to factories at reasonable prices. It will also give a strong impetus towards agricultural investment, the reclamation of new lands, and an increase in the volume of manufactured agricultural exports."
Kahilah explained that it is expected to increase the demand for licensing agricultural manufacturing facilities and expand the margin of their work. Industrial facilities operating in this field are currently limited to the manufacture of fodder, crushing, sifting and crushing of grains, as well as grain mills and the extraction of arjun oil, in addition to olive pressing facilities, cheese and dairy factories, storage and cooling units, and sorting and packaging units. And compost manufacturing units from compost plant and animal waste.
The total number of industrial facilities licensed in the governorate is 1,298, distributed among all engineering, chemical, food and textile sectors, while the number of craft establishments has reached 6,666 diversified establishments.
