More than 93 thousand tons estimated production of the sugar beet crop in Hama

Hama Agriculture Directorate estimated the production of 1693 tons of sugar beet during the current season within the lands under its supervision.

The director of Hama Agriculture, Ashraf Bakir, said in a statement to SANA that the total area planted with the sugar beet crop amounted to about 366 dunums, the cultivation of which is concentrated in the areas of Hama, Kafr Zita and Mahrada, noting that the harvest operations are expected to start during the month of July.

For its part, the preliminary estimates of the Al-Ghab Management and Development Authority revealed the production of about 91800 tons of sugar beet during the current season out of the total cultivated area of ​​1836 hectares for the autumn season.

Engineer Imad Al-Naasan, Director of Statistics and Planning at the Al-Ghab Development Authority, said in a similar statement that the extraction of the crop will begin in the first half of next July to be delivered to the Tal Salhab Sugar Company, adding that beet cultivation is concentrated in Al-Asharnah, Al-Suqaylabiyah, Ain Al-Krum, Al-Hourat and Al-Asharnah.

For their part, a number of sugar beet farmers in the Al-Ghab region, including Kamal Al-Abed and Hassan Tajour, confirmed that the areas affected by the frost exceeded 674 hectares, pointing out the necessity of disbursing compensation in addition to an increase in the purchase price of the ton to match the high production costs such as the prices of agricultural medicines, fertilizers and transportation fees.
