Attraction in the English Garden: An artificial surfing wave like the one in Munich's Eisbach could also be found in Dachau in the foreseeable future.

Association supports the TSV Dachau 1865 in the implementation of the artificial wave project

Dachau – Admittedly, the redesign of the old MD site is still a long way off.

There are no building rights, let alone concrete building applications and certainly no plans for the design of the Mühlbach.

After all: Investor Isaria has already given the new district to be built the name "Mühlbachviertel".

Nevertheless, there is one group of people in Dachau for whom the development of the site and the renaturation of the creek cannot go fast enough: the hobby surfers.

This group formed its own department at TSV Dachau 1865 in October (we reported).

She is now getting support from the city's second major sports club – ASV Dachau.

Together, the young surfers want to put into practice the idea of an artificial surfing wave in the Mühlbach, which has been fundamentally supported by city politicians and has not yet been rejected by investors.

"River wave project MD site"

As confirmed by TSV chairman Wolfgang Moll, there had already been an “exploratory talk on cooperation between the two major clubs” on the “Flusswellenprojekt MD site”.

His TSV also "appreciates the fact that the idea of our surfing department has been taken up and that we are already being taken on board by those responsible for project development and the city administration on the way to a goal-oriented implementation".

Denise Kunze, Florian Ebner and Kilian Bachmann are in charge of the project at TSV.

On the ASV side, it is handball coach Ludwig Streller who wants to make the topic known in his club.

Streller says that he is an enthusiastic hobby surfer and has known Denise Kunze for years.

That's why he "just called" her about it.

At a subsequent meeting, the young people agreed that the TSV should continue to be the voice of the athletes in the planning.

The ASV, as the largest mass sports club in Dachau, should meanwhile diligently beat the drum for its members.

All in all, according to Streller, "we want to keep up the pressure on the city and the investor so that the wave is actually built"!

ASV boss still needs to be convinced

However, the ASV does not (initially) want to set up its own surfing department.

Under no circumstances do Streller, Kunze and Co. want to risk "competition" or "quarrels" - knowing that the relationship between ASV and TSV has not always been smooth in recent years.

While the young TSV surfers know their chairman Moll is behind them, Streller still has to do a little convincing with his club boss.

Andreas Wilhelm is not yet completely convinced that – firstly – the surfing wave à la Eisbach will really come to Dachau and – secondly – that there will actually be a significant number of ASV people willing to surf.

bet is on

However, Ludwig Streller believes that one has to “just start and try something”.

So he has a bet with ASV boss Wilhelm.

"If we manage to find 400 interested members out of 4000, then we get more than just a beer," reveals Streller with a laugh.

But 200 to 300 ASV members "who are up for it" would also be enough for him.

Basically, in a popular sports city like Dachau, "everyone should be able to stand on a board if they want to".
