With the passing of one hundred years since the birth of the great Syrian historian Gabriel Saadeh, the Ministry of Culture represented by the Latakia Culture Directorate celebrated the late

Al-Kabeer held an intellectual symposium entitled “Gabriel Saadeh.. One Hundred Years of Giving,” during which a number of thinkers and researchers shed light on the creative aspects of Saadeh’s personality, which enjoys a prominent position among the world’s leading historians and archaeologists.

The symposium hosted by Dar Al-Assad for Culture in Lattakia came to highlight the great role of Saadeh, who was called the encyclopedia for being the writer, researcher, musician, historian, and one of the most important intellectual figures in the last century that contributed to the establishment of many cultural landmarks in Syria in general and Lattakia Governorate in particular, as it constitutes the most important reference for every researcher in history. During the symposium, thinker and researcher Firas Sawah, archaeological researcher Dr. Bassam Jamous, archaeological researcher Dr. Jamal Haider and music researcher Ziad Ajan presented their readings on Saadeh's thought and personality.

Gabriel Saadeh and the European Academic System, the title of the intervention presented by the thinker Sawah, in which he demonstrated the great position of the late, who was able to penetrate the iron academic curtain that Europe surrounded itself with after the Renaissance through his books that spread in it and made an impact in the academic community there to become the first and last reference for everyone who searches In the history of Ugarit anywhere in the world.

For his part, Dr. Jamous considered that Saadeh left an important heritage and cultural heritage, and is credited with collecting documents related to the city of Lattakia, especially Ugarit, in addition to his publications and important researches about it that made him a scientific and archaeological stature, both local and international.

Dr. Jamal Haidar referred to the happiness of the haunted by the love of his homeland and the disclosure of his archaeological heritage and monuments, which transformed his large and rich library with the most important references and research in various fields into a destination for every researcher.

The researcher Al-Ajjan pointed out in his intervention to Saadeh’s vast musical culture in playing and composing, in addition to his contribution to presenting the most important musical and lyrical talents in Syria and the Arab world.

Director of Latakia Culture Majd Sarim explained in a statement to SANA the importance of the symposium, which comes within the keenness of the Ministry of Culture to pay attention to the province's flags, led by His Excellency

He gave a lot in the field of archeology, music and literature during his life. He also donated his large musical library to Dar Al-Assad Library in Lattakia.

The symposium concluded with the screening of a documentary film directed by Muhammad Ismail Agha and prepared by journalist Sajie Korkmaz, which dealt with the most important stations of Saadeh's life.

It is noteworthy that Gabriel Saadeh, the son of Lattakia from 1922-1997, holder of a law degree in 1944, is the founder of many cultural monuments in it, such as the Youth Club, the Musical Club, the Ugarit Friends Association, and the National Orthodox High School. In the year 1970.
