The People's Assembly, in its fourteenth session of the sixth regular session of the third legislative session, held under the chairmanship of Hamouda Sabbagh, Speaker of the Assembly, discussed the performance of the Ministry of Transport and issues related to its work.

The Minister of Transport, Zuhair Khuzaym, confirmed that the ministry has completed the networking operations between its directorates in the governorates within the central vehicle transaction management program, and it has been linked with the ministries of finance, communications and technology and the Traffic Department electronically, and has made great strides in electronic payment operations. License his vehicle without referring to the Directorate of Transport.

Minister Khuzaym explained that a wide range of decisions have been issued to ease the burdens on citizens, such as the facilities granted to review farmers’ mechanisms, technical inspection matters, facilities for owners of locally manufactured bicycles, reducing the year for making public tourist cars, granting the advantage of conducting an urgent driving test, and exempting Syrian trucks from the transit fee. He indicated that the ministry is currently studying the traffic and vehicle law in line with modern developments.

Minister Khuzaym pointed out that the number of operating flights from Syria has been increased to cover the stations of Beirut, Cairo, Khartoum, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Kuwait, Muscat, Baghdad, Najaf, Basra, Erbil, Yerevan, Tehran, Karachi and Moscow after the opening of the airports of Damascus, Aleppo and Qamishli to international flights, in addition to continuing the implementation of the runway project. Parallel at Aleppo Airport and increasing the number of flights there to include Beirut, Sharjah, Kuwait, Erbil and Yerevan, indicating that there are efforts to operate a flight from Aleppo to Cairo.

In their interventions, a number of council members called for improving the salaries of pilots working for the Syrian Airlines Corporation, improving the reality of services at airports, increasing the number of flights inside and outside Syria, rehabilitating and maintaining bridges and international roads linking many governorates and providing them with road signs and phosphorous signs, especially in areas liberated from terrorism. .

He called on the members to rehabilitate the transport directorates that were subjected to systematic sabotage and destruction, to increase the number of their affiliated centers, and to expedite the completion of the network connection between the Ministry and the Ministries of Interior and Justice to complete the transactions related to mechanisms and expedite the decision on the objections submitted regarding the exemption from government support, stressing the need to maintain and rehabilitate the railways between provinces.

The members stressed the importance of finding a mechanism to register unlicensed motorcycles so that their owners obtain their fuel allocations and settle the conditions of vehicles and vehicles registered with the transport directorates that were stolen or destroyed by terrorism.

For his part, the Chairman of the Council indicated that detailed memos were delivered on the issues and questions raised by the members of the Council through their interventions to the Minister of Transport, calling for an answer to these memos in writing.

In his response to the members’ interventions, Minister Khuzaym explained that the central roads in Syria require large sums of money to maintain and restore them. Therefore, maintenance plans were distributed in the governorates according to priorities and in coordination with the governors, knowing that 120 km of roads have been maintained and paved at a cost of about 5 billion Syrian pounds. Work is underway to rehabilitate the Damascus-Daraa highway.

Minister Khuzaiem pointed out that all the interventions and questions of the members of the Council will be answered and the issues related to them will be addressed according to the priorities and available capabilities.

The session, which was attended by the Minister of State for People's Assembly Affairs, Abdullah Abdullah, was adjourned to 11 am tomorrow, Thursday.
