While the man - according to
La Repubblica
a 28-year-old American - can heave his scooter down the stairs next to him, things are different with his 29-year-old companion.
In the online clip, it's not entirely clear whether she's losing control of the vehicle or throwing it down the stairs out of frustration.
The result is the same, however: the scooter clatters down the antique steps, which were restored in 2015 at a cost of more than a million euros.
According to the report, the woman threw the scooter down the steps several times after the end of the video "for pure amusement".
The result: some marble steps of the Spanish Steps are said to have broken.
According to the police, the damage value is almost 25,000 euros, as reported by

.
The staircase is one of the most closely monitored tourist attractions in Rome.
The police later managed to locate the tourists through video surveillance.
According to the report, they were each fined 400 euros.
La Repubblica
also speaks of a two-day ban on visiting the Spanish Steps for both.
In addition, the woman was reported for damaging a monument because she had willfully thrown the scooter down the stairs.
