How are positive cases of monkeypox confirmed?

Brazil has confirmed the first case of monkeypox, the São Paulo state Department of Health said in a statement Thursday.
A 41-year-old man, who has traveled several times to Spain and Portugal, is hospitalized in the city of São Paulo, the statement said.
The man is in good condition, the statement added.
