Documentation: Young people from Issawiya attacked police officers in the French Hill neighborhood of Jerusalem

The detention of two suspects in the attack on the three policemen, who were not on duty at the time of the incident, was extended by four days.

Last night (Wednesday), young Arabs from Issawiya in East Jerusalem attacked three policemen in the French Hill neighborhood of the city.

The city magistrate's court today extended the detention of two suspects in the act, aged 22 and 25, by four days.

Tonight, four more suspects were arrested in the attack.

The documentation of the attack was first published by Yossi Eli in News 13.

The police officers, who were not on duty at the time of the incident, arrived at the entrance to the Arab neighborhood, were attacked, opened fire - and fled to French Hill.

There the young men caught them and attacked them again.

In response, police opened fire again.

The policeman involved in the shooting gave his version to the police but was not questioned under warning.

"A policeman was almost murdered," a police spokesman said at the court remand hearing, adding that "this is a particularly violent incident."

According to the suspects, they did not even know that the three were police officers - and they felt threatened because of the weapons they were carrying.

During his interrogation by the police, one of the suspects in the assault claimed that he saw a man pulling out a weapon without knowing that it was a police officer and feared for his life.

"I was afraid he would shoot me, so I caught him not shooting me," he said.

Advocate Pras Mustafa Ali, representing one of the suspects on behalf of the Public Defender's Office, argued at the hearing that "the arrest in this case is in ignorance and there is no reasonable suspicion.

This is a person who says 'I was in the arena, I happened to be there by chance, I saw what happened, I was not involved in any incident of violence'.

One has to wonder why the shooting took place in a residential neighborhood.

"The investigating unit is enforcing the law in a one-way direction. A person who shoots in a non-official residential area and is not questioned in a warning, it is clear that there is behavior in a panic, the same policeman was robbed of his weapon."

Defense counsel for another suspect involved in the assault on police officers claimed during the hearing that "he did not go down to attack the police officer, he did not know it was a Jew at all, he did not know he was a police officer at all. A person who collided with his car "That he shot him, catches him not shooting him and shouts, call the police."
