In the trial for the accidental death of an eight-year-old after an illegal car race, the Aachen district court sentenced the two accused to youth imprisonment on Thursday.
A 20-year-old was sentenced to three years and nine months for taking part in a motor vehicle race resulting in death, and a 21-year-old was sentenced to three years and six months for participation in a race and involuntary manslaughter.
Aachen – The chamber considered it proven that the two accused had raced down a country road in the Eifel in August 2020.
The 20-year-old's car collided head-on with another car while overtaking in a curve.
The eight-year-old girl sitting in it was killed, the driver and passenger were seriously injured.
With the verdict, the chamber fell short of the demands of the public prosecutor's office, which had pleaded for five years of youth imprisonment.
