Fatal accident in car racing: youth penalties

After an accident, two completely destroyed cars are lying on the edge of the L12 country road between Roetgen and Simmerath in the Eifel.

In the trial over the accidental death of a girl after an illegal car race, the Aachen district court sentenced the two accused to youth imprisonment on Thursday.
A 20-year-old was sentenced to three years and nine months and a 21-year-old to three years and six months for participating in a motor vehicle race resulting in death.
Aachen – The chamber considered it proven that the two accused had raced down a country road in the Eifel in August 2020.
The 20-year-old's car collided head-on with another car while overtaking in a curve.
The eight-year-old girl sitting in it was killed, the driver and passenger were seriously injured.
With the verdict, the chamber fell short of the demands of the public prosecutor's office, which had pleaded for five years of youth imprisonment.
