Homs-Sana
The branch of the General Authority for Fisheries in Homs has identified 150 family fish farms from different regions of the governorate to benefit from the free distribution of fish fingerlings with the aim of developing the reality of breeding at the governorate level and securing an additional source of income for the beneficiary families.
The director of the authority’s branch, Eng. Waseem Qasrawi, confirmed in a statement to SANA reporter that the fish to be distributed are of the type of carp, and the families who own ponds with an area of less than 250 square meters benefit from them, noting that the authority’s branch sells fish fingerlings to dams and licensed farms at a price of 8500 pounds per kilogram.
Qasrawi indicated that it was allowed to start fishing in the lakes of Qatina and Rastan after stopping for about three months during the breeding period, indicating that the number of leased water dams at the governorate level is 16 that contribute to increasing fish production.
During the past years, the branch of the Public Authority carried out the cultivation of carp fish fingerlings in the Qatina and Rastan dams with the aim of increasing fish production at the governorate level. It also distributed fingerlings to a number of rural families who own small aquariums to enable them to achieve self-sufficiency in this type of meat.
