The prices in the supermarket continue to rise – but Edeka is now countering this with a price freeze.

However, there are a few points to note about the promotion if you want to benefit from it.

Munich – Inflation is causing problems for German citizens.

In May, the inflation rate was 7.4 percent.

Food even cost 8.6 percent more than in the same month last year.

With this extreme price increase, some customers will certainly switch from Edeka, Rewe and Co. to the often cheaper discounter competitors such as Aldi or Lidl.

Edeka: Prices will not be increased until the end of August

But Edeka has now come up with something to keep its customers.

With the title "Inflation stop at Edeka", the supermarket chain advertises that the prices for a number of products will be frozen until August 31st.

If the price of a product increases, the "difference is deducted directly during the checkout process and the product is sold at a lower price," according to a press release.

The campaign is valid in all Edeka markets, Edeka centers, Marktkauf stores and NP markets.

Edeka: Action against inflation "to protect customers"

However, there are two important points to note.

First of all, this regulation only applies to 200 articles of the Gut & Billig brand – not for the entire range.

And secondly, you have to be a so-called DeutschlandCard customer in order to get the lower price.

Similar to Payback, the DeutschlandCard is a bonus program with which points are collected when shopping, which can then be redeemed for prizes.

Despite the restriction to private label items, customers have a wide range of savings products.

From butter to sausage and cheese to toilet cleaner, the prices for a number of everyday goods will remain low at least until the end of August.

Edeka itself states on its website that it is doing this "to protect customers from the current price increases".

However, the ever-increasing competition from discounters may also play a role here.
