Renault cleans up its collection

2022-06-09T17:47:28.908Z

AUCTION - On the occasion of Le Mans Classic, Artcurial is auctioning off a few vehicles from the French manufacturer's collection.

He is neither the first nor the last.

Peugeot but also Citroën and more recently Mercedes with the spectacular sale of one of the two 300 SLR Coupé Uhlenhaut have already taken such steps.

Renault has decided to clean up its collection and separate a few cars.

Consisting of more than 800 vehicles telling its story from the birth of the company in 1898 until today, this museum is not open to the public.

Between production cars, show or development prototypes and competition models, this collection represents a gold mine.

However, it has duplicates or vehicles that are not of first-rate historical or heritage interest.

This is how the Boulogne-based manufacturer conducted a reflection on the evolution of its collection.

To assist him in his approach, Renault approached the Artcurial house which will disperse according to its next sales some vehicles from the Renault collection under the theme “Renault Icons”.

Hugues Portron, the director of RenaultClassic, insists on the fact that

“to prosper, a collection must evolve, adapt, renew itself around a hard core made up of essentials.

We are very happy to be supported by Artcurial in this process and thus to offer enthusiasts the possibility of appropriating witnesses to the extraordinary history of Renault.”

The first eight lots will thus be dispersed during the sale to be held at Le Mans Classic on July 2nd.

On this occasion, Artcurial will sell the Formula 1 RE40-03 that Alain Prost drove during the 1983 season. At the wheel of this single-seater, the four-time French world champion will take the start of five Grand Prix.

He won the Belgian Grand Prix, finished 2nd in San Marino and 3rd in Monaco after taking pole position.

Other Formula 1 will be offered during the sale: the Tyrrell 015 with V6 Turbo Renault engine driven by Philippe Streiff in 1986;

a Williams-Renault FW15 show car similar to the world champion car with Alain Prost in 1993;

a Benetton B197 Formula 1 show car identical to the one Jean Alesi drove during the 1997 season.

The “Renault Icons” catalog will also present the Clio 16S Group 4 that Carlos Tavares drove in rallying, the Laguna that Renault entered in the English Touring Car Championship BTCC in 1999, an F1 V6 Turbo engine from the period 1985-1986 never used in competition and a 1970 Renault Elf Gordini single-seater for children.
